Trauma Informed Counselling & Somatic Therapy Online Across Australia
You have learned to keep going. Perhaps something within you is asking for attention.
“Some of what we carry is difficult to name. Sometimes it is grief for what was lost, what was missing, or what we kept hoping would be different.”
- Nisha Trivedi
How Trauma-Informed Counselling and Somatic Therapy Work Together
New Leaf with Nisha is a Brisbane-based practice offering online trauma-informed counselling and somatic therapy to adults across Australia.
People rarely arrive with one isolated problem. What is happening now may sit alongside long-held responsibilities, family or cultural expectations, grief, relationship patterns, work pressures, or ways of coping that once made sense in a different time or context.
My work is interested in how these experiences relate to one another rather than treating them as separate symptoms. We may explore what is happening in relationships, the meanings you have made of your experiences, and what becomes noticeable emotionally or through the body.
Somatic therapy is not an alternative to conversation, and it is not automatically included. Sessions may remain entirely conversational or, when useful, make room for noticing sensation, posture, breath, movement or other aspects of present-moment experience.
Culture, family systems, migration, identity, place and the environments you move through are not background information. They can shape what has been expected of you, what has been possible, and how you have learned to respond.
Care that honours your cultural, relational, and lived experiences.
The challenges we face are often shaped by more than one story. I recognise the influence of relationships, family, culture, grief, identity, and life circumstances.
Areas of Support
Burnout, emotional exhaustion, and the particular frustration of feeling depleted when you have done everything you were supposed to do.
Fertility challenges, IVF, and reproductive loss, including the grief that does not go away just because others have moved on, and the anger that rarely gets permission to exist.
Losses that do not always have a name, including shifts in identity, relationships, roles, and a sense of direction that once felt certain.
Migration, cultural displacement, and the quiet loneliness of living between worlds, where you belong everywhere and nowhere at once.
Cultural, family, and intergenerational experiences that continue to shape how you see yourself, how you relate to others, and what you believe you are allowed to want.
Emotional disconnection from yourself or from relationships that genuinely matter to you, even when you cannot explain why the distance is there.
The exhaustion of being the capable one, the one who holds it together, the one others rely on, while privately wondering who holds you.
Life transitions that are asking more of you than a simple decision, inviting you to reconsider who you are, what you value, and how you want to live going forward.
Meet Nisha Trivedi (she/her)
PACFA Registered Clinical Counsellor · Somatic Practitioner · Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F)
Hi, I'm Nisha.
Based in Brisbane, I offer online trauma informed counselling and somatic therapy to adults across Australia.
I didn't come to this work through textbooks alone. My path has also been shaped by grief, cultural displacement and significant life transitions. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent nearly two decades working within complex systems across leadership, case management and regulatory roles.
That combination of lived and professional experience continues to influence how I work. I am interested in what a response may have helped someone manage, and in the relationships, family systems, cultures and circumstances in which it developed, rather than viewing it as an isolated problem.
I bring cultural humility, curiosity and respect for the personal, collective and intergenerational experiences that may be part of a person's story.
You’re welcome to speak with me in English, Hindi, or Gujarati, whichever feels most natural to you.

How We Can Work Together
Therapy with me starts by identifying what is currently affecting you, allowing the broader context to become clearer as our work progresses.
We'll touch on various aspects of your life such as your relationships, family dynamics, cultural influences, losses, responsibilities, and the origins of your coping strategies. And don’t worry about having the right words or a concrete plan.
Think of our sessions as a partnership. We will take the time we need, explore what feels right, and adjust our focus if something doesn’t resonate. Expect a sense of compassionate curiosity and there’s no pressure to move faster than your own readiness.

What I value most is that she gently helps me recognise patterns, understand myself on a deeper level, and see situations from perspectives I may not have considered before.”

Individual Counselling
For when you've spent so long coping that you've lost sight of what you need.
Whether you're navigating grief, burnout, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, or a significant life transition, therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what you're carrying, and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels supportive, meaningful, and sustainable.
-

Relationship Counselling
For when connection matters, and so does difference.
Conflict, distance or difference can be difficult without asking either person to leave family, culture, faith or important parts of themselves outside the relationship. Therapeutic work could make room for both connection and difference while paying attention to what happens between you when things become difficult.

Somatic Therapy and Trauma Sensitive Yoga
For when understanding the pattern is only a ‘part’ of the story.
Somatic therapy can include noticing what is happening physically alongside conversation, without turning the session into a set of exercises. TCTSY is offered as a distinct, choice-based movement practice.
At New Leaf with Nisha, I offer trauma informed counselling and somatic therapy that honours the complexity of your experiences and the strengths that have helped you navigate them.
By exploring the patterns, relationships, losses, and life experiences that continue to influence the present, counselling can support greater connection, self trust, emotional safety, and choice in how you respond to life's challenges.
What Shapes Practice at New Leaf with Nisha
My practice is shaped by five commitments that honour your full humanity - your body, mind, relationships, culture, context and lived experience.
-
I see you as a whole person, not just stories or symptoms. Together, we explore how your emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual experiences shape your feelings, healing, and connections. This approach honours all parts of you, promoting understanding and growth toward well-being.
-
How we protect, reach for others, withdraw, accommodate or carry responsibility often develops in relationship. We can explore these patterns without deciding that one part of you is the problem, and with attention to the relationships and circumstances in which they made sense.
-
I create a warm and supportive environment where you don’t have to perform, fix anything, or prove yourself. This is your space to breathe and simply be, allowing you to reconnect with yourself and what truly resonates with you. You are welcome here just as you are.
-
We go beyond talk therapy. I integrate somatic counselling, body-based practices, and nervous system education to help you regulate, release, and reconnect with your innate sense of emotional safety.
-
Your story, identity and lived experiences matter. I practice with cultural humility and an awareness that healing is never one-size-fits-all. You are the expert of your own experience, and your voice leads the way.
TRAUMA IS NOT A DISEASE;
It’s a protective and adaptive response to past experiences.
The impact of trauma can leave lasting imprints on our emotions, thoughts, bodies, sense of self, and relationships, often shaping how we navigate the present, even without conscious awareness.
