Compassionate Trauma-informed Counselling and Somatic Therapy in Brisbane and Australia-wide.
Support Grounded in Presence and an Ecological, Whole-Person Approach
At New Leaf with Nisha, my focus is on nurturing your whole self, not just addressing surface symptoms, in a space where you can arrive as you are and feel genuinely seen.
New Leaf with Nisha offers online trauma informed counselling and somatic support for adults across Australia.
The word "trauma" comes from the Greek term "traûma," meaning wound. Just as physical wounds need care to heal, emotional wounds also require attention. When left unacknowledged, these emotional wounds can surface as triggers, body tension, or a general sense of unease, often intensifying during times of change. In this space, we'll collaborate to understand and reshape these patterns, so you can regain control and respond to life consciously.
I aim to support you in re-establishing safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, choice, and empowerment within yourself and your relationships, guided by the core principles of trauma-informed care. This work takes an ecological view of healing, i.e. recognising that wellbeing is shaped not only by your inner world, but also by relationships, community, culture, and the broader environment.
Healing unfolds at a pace that respects your body, relationships, and internal capacity for change.
Areas I Commonly Support Clients With
• navigating major life transitions and identity shifts
• working through grief and loss, including disenfranchised and intergenerational experiences
• repairing relational trauma, attachment wounds, and self worth challenges
• processing fertility and reproductive grief
• building emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, and greater understanding of stress and survival responses
• reconnecting with self trust, clarity, and meaningful relationships
Research shows that unresolved stress and trauma from childhood can leave lasting imprints on both the body and mind, shaping our health, relationships, and overall well-being. This is a crucial insight from the groundbreaking Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study, first documented by Felitti and colleagues.
The core of this research reveals that trauma isn't just a memory; it's a physiological experience stored within us. As Brené Brown explains, effective trauma work requires us to address both the mind and the body.
This means we can't just talk our way out of trauma. That's why embodied healing is so powerful as it asks us to pair our story with body-work. By understanding how the story lives within us, we can gently release its hold on our physical and emotional selves.
Why Counselling & Somatic Therapy Together?
Bridging Mind and Body for Holistic Healing
Emotions are more than thoughts. They are lived experiences held within the body and nervous system. When difficult experiences remain unresolved, they can manifest as anxiety, chronic tension, emotional shutdown, overwhelm, or a sense of disconnection. At New Leaf with Nisha, I work with the understanding that insight alone is often not enough for lasting change. We must also engage the body’s innate wisdom and capacity for regulation
A Resilience-Informed Approach
Drawing on Polyvagal Theory, this work supports greater flexibility within the nervous system while exploring how past experiences may continue to shape present day emotional and relational patterns. Rather than solely revisiting the past, we work with how these experiences are held and expressed in the body now, supporting movement from survival based responses toward greater agency, connection, and choice.
This process is about Resource Stacking: identifying the strengths you already possess and anchoring them in your physical body so they become reliable tools for daily life.
This work is designed for those seeking to:
• develop a stronger sense of steadiness, connection, and trust within themselves and their body
• better understand emotional, relational, and survival patterns that may have developed through stress, grief, trauma, or earlier relationship experiences
• expand their Window of Tolerance and navigate difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed, emotionally shut down, or disconnected from themselves
• move beyond automatic coping or protective responses and respond to life with greater awareness, flexibility, and choice
• cultivate embodied self compassion grounded in curiosity, understanding, and respect for the ways they have learned to survive
The goal is not to "fix" a problem. The aim is to support Post-Traumatic Growth through greater integration of emotional, relational, and embodied awareness, helping create more sustainable ways of relating to yourself and others.
“When we integrate the mind and body, we cultivate the internal reliability and safety required to meet life with genuine connection” - Nisha Trivedi
Growth is a natural part of healing. In a safe, collaborative space, we’ll explore patterns and emotional responses, deepen self-awareness, and build tools for emotional regulation and confidence. Individual counselling supports your journey toward greater clarity, resilience, and a more meaningful life.
Your relationship can be a space for emotional safety, intimacy, and meaningful connection. Through therapeutic counselling, I support you and your partner to move through disconnection to rebuild trust, and shift unhelpful patterns. Together, we cultivate open communication, nervous system awareness, and deeper emotional attunement, so you can reconnect with clarity, compassion, and shared purpose.
